The Value of Customizable RDA, DRI, and RNI Templates

Most high-end software packages allow you to set nutrient goals for your clients. But this is often a time-consuming task since many packages require that you manually enter nutrient goals for each client. This can mean spending time looking up the nutrient goals based on the client's age and gender, then manually entering the various values.

Other products make this task far easier and faster by providing preformatted templates for the RDA's, DRI's and RNI's for men and women at every age group (it also provides information for pregnant and lactating women).

In addition to providing these nutrient goals for every age break for women and men, some products also automatically select the appropriate RDA, DRI, or RNI for your client based on their age and gender.

At least one product also let's you select preformatted nutrient goals for 1/3 RDA's, 1/3 DRI's and 1/3 RNI's. These values are handy for programs that serve only a single meal each day (like Meals on Wheels).

In your User Preferences, you can select which of these standards you want the software to "auto-select" for you. You tell the software which standard to automatically select for you, and the software does the rest.

You can use the automatically selected nutrient goals as your starting point for your client. Or you can customize these goals on a client-by-client basis.

With some products, you can also modify the original values for any of these standards if you wish. This is important for updating evolving standards.
